Memories of real joy set to Ellie Flier’s “Dodi Li” are recaptured in this beautiful video that — fair warning — may send you into tears.
A few months ago, Ellie Flier recruited six friends to help her with a very special project. Since her album Pray for Open Eyes, produced by Kosher Style Records, was released in 2018, her “Dodi Li” has been used as the traditional love song in many Jewish weddings — even though her composition, which quotes Romeo and Juliet in the second verse, is not quite traditional.
“When I was thinking about ideas for a music video, I couldn’t get the idea of weddings out of my head,” Ellie explained. “Then it suddenly came to me — I could use clips from my friends’ actual big days. After all, actors can’t fake the kind of love and happiness you see at an actual wedding.”
So Ellie reached out to some friends, who loved her idea and immediately sent over movie files of their own wedding videos. “I remember these weddings from sitting in the crowd,” Ellie said. “It was so amazing to watch it all again and relive the wonderful feeling you have when watching friends you love marry their partners.”
And it isn’t just Ellie and her friends in the wedding clips who have enjoyed and been touched by the video. Many viewers so far have commented on the warm feelings they got from witnessing such moments of love, even of people they don’t know personally. Some said they even cried in joy and happiness at the reminder of wonderful days of the past — which Ellie says is the best compliment of all.
